We’ve been back from vacation now for about a week and a half. I’m so glad we took one. It was a much needed break before all the chaos of a new school year breaks in. For those who care, we spent a day at the Mall of America, then cut down through Wisconsin where we spent a couple of hours at Wisconsin Dells (typical tourist town, but very beautiful scenery). From there we made our way to the east side of Lake Michigan, and spent a couple of days at St. Joseph, MI and Silver Beach. Aside from the extremely cold water the second and third days, it was a great time. Kids enjoyed playing in the sand despite the fact that they could not go in the water.
From there we headed to Fort Wayne where we saw friends of ours and got to attend the Divine Service at Redeemer. It was so nice to go to church there again on Sunday–I don’t think I have done that since I left Fort Wayne. Wonderful to see Pastor Petersen, Kantor Reuning, and other friends again. We ate Sunday brunch at the sem, and saw the new president, Dr. Larry Rast and visit with him for a little bit.
From there we headed back toward Iowa, stopping over night at my bro’s place in Elmhurst, IL. We packed a lot of stuff into a week’s time. We got to eat at some great restaurants, and all in all it was a good time. Things got tense occasionally in the Suburban, but that happens when you have children ages 3, 6, 9, and 16. Traffic around Chicago is horrible. Ugh!
We were glad to get back, and now we are trying to get our act together before school starts, Catechesis, and other things. It takes a lot of work to prepare for the Fall activities. Seems like we have something scheduled every weekend in September and pretty much October too. That is how it goes.
