Jesus Fills out the SET (Self-Evaluation Tool): Part One in a Series

Question One: Describe your understanding of the Church and its mission, especially regarding outreach to the lost.

Answer: The Son of Man came into the world not to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The mission of the Church is to carry this message of salvation into the world so that sinners may believe in the Son of Man and be saved, for whoever believes and is baptized shall be saved. But whoever does not believe will be condemned. Ordinarily this is done by the calling and sending of missionaries and pastors, on whose lips this saving Truth has been placed. For how can they believe if there is no one to preach, and how can they preach unless they are sent? (Romans 10) This is why I sent my Apostles and commanded them to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to keep everything that I commanded them.”

Slighty modified answer in order to ensure the receipt of a Call to an LC-MS parish:

The mission of the Church is to set hearts ablaze with the love of Jesus!(TM) Ordinarily this is done by every lay person, since Christ has commissioned all Christians to baptize and Teach (Matthew 28; Brief Statement).
